New Recycling Messages On Council Trucks

Kerbside trucks

Swan Hill Rural City Council has partnered with Sustainability Victoria to launch the Small Acts, Big Impact campaign, aimed at improving recycling habits across the region.

Council's Deputy Mayor, Cr Les McPhee said as part of this initiative, residents will notice new signage on Council's kerbside collection trucks, featuring important messages to help reduce contamination and improve recycling rates.

"The campaign aims to address some common recycling mistakes and to encourage residents to take simple actions that can make a big impact on the environment.

"One of the key issues identified is bagged recyclables, which should always be placed loose in the bin rather than in plastic bags

"Soft plastics, bagged waste, and food scraps are also frequently found in recycling bins when they should be placed in the red landfill bin instead. Keeping the recycling stream clean helps improve recovery rates and ensures materials can be properly processed," Cr McPhee said.

Cr McPhee said the new truck messages would serve as a simple yet effective reminder for residents when sorting their waste.

"A few small changes in how we dispose of waste can make a big difference to our environment. Messages on our collection trucks will provide everyday reminders to help everyone recycle right," he said.

Council encourages all residents to pay attention to the new messages and take simple steps to ensure they are putting the right items in the right bins.
