New Restaurant Revitalises Albert Park Classic

VIC Premier

A famous Albert Park landmark will be transformed into a modern restaurant and function centre to provide locals and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy spectacular views across the lake thanks to the Allan Labor Government.

Today Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos announced that The Point will be leased out to the Australian Venue Company (AVC) for a long-term lease to open a new restaurant and function centre on the refurbished site.

The Point is set to become a welcoming centre of dining, hospitality and community in the heart of Albert Park, catering to families, corporate functions, visitors and the local community.

For many years it hosted a restaurant that regularly featured in The Age Good Food Guide and enjoyed a strong reputation for fine dining.

AVC will invest $3.4 million towards the reopening. The ground floor will be transformed into a casual bistro with a balcony to enjoy the parkland, lake and stunning view of the Melbourne CBD skyline.

The first level will become a dedicated functions and events space for group celebrations, corporate events and weddings.

The Government continues to invest in Albert Park facilities, recognising the park's importance to Melbourne as much-loved walking, picnicking and sporting site.

This includes a $1.6 million investment in solar panels for the park's community sports club facilities, annual funding for sports clubs through the Albert Park Sports Grants program and a new pavilion at Oval One.

A recent $5 million Federal Government investment will deliver a range of further upgrades for changerooms, sports fields and sailing infrastructure to encourage sporting and recreational activities at the park.
