New road connection provides essential north-south link

City of Whittlesea residents are celebrating the completion of the Edgars Road extension between Cooper Street and O'Herns Road in Epping.

The much-needed road connection was fast-tracked and delivered by Melbourne property developer MAB Corporation, in partnership with the City of Whittlesea, to help ease congestion on High Street, Epping Road, Miller Street and Cooper Street.

The 1km transport link provides easier access to the residential estates in Epping North and Wollert, ensuring residents spend less time commuting.

City of Whittlsea Director Infrastructure and Environment Debbie Wood said the completed link was very exciting news for Whittlesea commuters who face congestion daily.

"We have been working collaboratively with MAB Corporation to get this road constructed as quickly as possible," Ms Wood said.

"We know traffic congestion is an issue in our City, particularly in our growth areas, which is why we're prioritising and advocating for a connected road network to get residents where they need to be faster and safer."

Epping North resident Melissa Conforto welcomed the news of the road connection, which will provide the young family with easier access to work, school and local services.

"Now that it's open, this road will make our lives so much easier," Mrs Conforto said.

"Between school, work, and family activities, we're always on-the-go, so it's a relief to have another road to help ease congestion."

The intersection of O'Herns Road and Edgars Road will open as part of the Victorian Government's O'Herns Road Upgrade project, which is due for completion in late 2021. In the meantime, motorists traveling along Edgars Road can access O'Herns Road via Quinlan Road.
