New Ronald McDonald House Opens on Park to Aid Families

  • Ronald McDonald House on Park now open for Western Australian families
  • 50 more rooms for regional families and children needing medical care in Perth
  • Part of $9.6 million Cook Government investment and $1.2 million Lotterywest grant

More regional Western Australian families and children needing medical care in Perth will now have greater access to free accommodation with the opening of new Ronald McDonald House premises.

Ronald McDonald House on Park was officially opened today, expanding free accommodation services in Perth for regional children receiving care at Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) and King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) by 50 rooms - nearly doubling total capacity.

The Cook Government contributed an additional $9.6 million to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) for the project, as well as a $1.2 million Lotterywest grant to support a fit-out and a $6 million donation from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation over the next five years.

The new premises, located at St Catherine's College in Crawley, started progressively opening to families in April, but is now fully operational.

Ronald McDonald House on Park is one of three locations operated by RMHC in Perth, with Ronald McDonald House at PCH and Ronald McDonald House at the Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre (QEII) also continuing to support WA families.

Ronald McDonald House at PCH was expanded by 14 rooms, while the Cook Government invested $2.5 million in the 2024-25 State Budget for a business case to consider expanding Ronald McDonald House at QEII by 100 rooms.

Ronald McDonald House helps on average more than 2,000 Western Australian families a year, providing no-cost accommodation and services for eligible families who require extended medical treatment at PCH or KEMH.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"It is fantastic to see Ronald McDonald House on Park fully up and running for regional WA kids and families who need to stay in Perth for medical care.

"These new premises more than double the total capacity of Ronald McDonald House Charities to provide free accommodation for children who require extended treatment at PCH or KEMH.

"My Government is proud to support this important project and welcome the ongoing commitment of RMHC to helping care for some of our sickest kids."

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"For many years Ronald McDonald House has provided a much-needed home away from home for regional families experiencing some of the toughest times of their lives.

"The staff at PCH and KEMH do an incredible job caring for children experiencing serious illnesses, and Ronald McDonald House is a crucial support service for those needing to travel to Perth from the regions.

"I'm so pleased to have the opportunity to officially open Ronald McDonald House on Park, which is now fully operational, adding 50 more rooms for WA families."

Comments attributed to Ronald McDonald House Charities WA CEO Peter King:

"The opening of Ronald McDonald House on Park is a critical milestone in our journey to realising our goal, that no family in Western Australia who needs us is turned away.

"With development of the business case underway, we have undergone a rigorous community consultation process, to ensure that we develop a case that will deliver a bigger, better home away from home for regional Western Australian families whose child needs medical care in Perth.

"With the growing number of Western Australian families in need of our programs and services, we simply couldn't do what we do without the support of the State Government, organisations like the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, Lotterywest and of course the community."
