- $160 million of industrial lease incentives to attract large-scale clean energy projects
- New program to help projects establish at WA's Strategic Industrial Areas
- Incentives to attract billions of dollars of investment and create thousands of local jobs
Western Australia is opening its doors to major new clean industries projects, with a new industrial lease incentive scheme to help attract job-creating mega-projects to the State.
The program, announced by Premier Roger Cook at the Energy Transition Summit, will put an estimated $160 million in lease incentives on the table for proponents to establish projects in WA's Strategic Industrial Areas (SIAs).
Significant costs and risks can be experienced by first movers to SIAs and the industrial lease incentive scheme aims to support foundation projects critical to the State's future.
The program will deliver a rebate on lease fees and rent waiver for a set period for proponents, and will be available for projects in the Anketell, Boodarie, Maitland, Mungari, Oakajee and Shotts SIAs.
Projects with a capital cost of $1 billion or more are eligible to apply, and projects will be required to make a final investment decision by 30 June 2028.
Proponents who wish to take advantage of the scheme will need to submit an application and are only able to be considered after they have been allocated SIA land by the Industrial Lands panel, or entered into an option to lease.
In the past two years, the WA Labor Government has allocated land to 14 major projects in WA's SIAs combined, those projects represent $104 billion worth of investment, which could generate thousands of construction jobs and almost 1,700 operational jobs.
