New Season of Beloved WA Reflections Series

  • Four short documentaries will showcase WA's rich history
  • The documentaries will use the State Library's collection of diaries, journals, photographs and personal audio and video recordings
  • WA Reflections initiative now in its third season

Filmmakers will shine a spotlight on Western Australian history, through a series of new documentaries as part of WA Reflections.

The State Library of Western Australia, Screenwest and Lotterywest have partnered again for this third season of WA Reflections.

Each of the four filmmaking teams received up to $25,000 production funding to produce their short films - a maximum of seven minutes.

The projects, which are yet to go into production, will use assets from the State Library's collection, including letters, diaries, posters, photographs and oral histories.

This season's documentaries will showcase:

  • Love, Rock EN Masse - a documentary that explores Perth's rock music culture at St George's Cathedral in the 1970s;
  • A Search Beyond the Stars - a history of WA's space exploration;
  • The Road Ahead: A Story of Arnold Cook and the Guide Dogs Movement - an inspiring story of the life of disability pioneer Dr Arnold Cook and his guide dog Dreena; and
  • I've Never Seen a Straight Banana - a documentary to honour the legacy of acclaimed vaudeville entertainer and male impersonator Effie Fellows.

When completed, the documentaries will be screened publicly.

Past WA Reflections projects can be viewed on the State Library's website and can be viewed on YouTube
