A major new secondary school in Perth's popular southern corridor was officially opened today.
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery and local MP Roger Cook were at the modern Hammond Park Secondary College which welcomed 175 Year 7 students at the start of the school year.
The facilities include a cafeteria with indoor and outdoor seating, library, administration, student services, staff areas, general classrooms, two inclusive education classrooms, wood and metal workshops and ICT laboratories.
There are also 10 science labs, a performing arts theatre, music classrooms, visual arts studios, media studios, lecture theatre and landscaped gardens.
Specialist facilities include science and food laboratories, a fitness centre, football oval and hard courts.
The school can currently accommodate 725 students and will grow to accommodate 1,450 students from Years 7 to 12 when the second stage of the build opens in 2023. The second stage of construction will include additional learning classrooms.

"This exceptional secondary college will be welcomed by families in the growing suburb of Hammond Park and will give students the best learning opportunities available now and in years to come.
"This is an exciting day for the local community, particularly for the students and staff who will be learning and teaching in an inspiring environment."
As stated by Kwinana MLA Roger Cook:
"This will be a welcome addition to the suburb of Hammond Park and surrounding areas. It will provide for the many families and their children located in the electorate of Kwinana.
"It is a state-of-the-art building incorporating first rate facilities and will eventually accommodate more than 1,400 students.
"Hammond Park Secondary College will accommodate the southern suburbs with staff and facilities of the highest calibre."
