Olympic gold medallist Logan Martin will inspire the next generation of local talent when he cuts the ribbon to officially open the new Logan Village Green Skate Park on Saturday, November 26.
The former Crestmead rider, who won the inaugural BMX freestyle gold at the Tokyo Olympics, will be among the special guests at the opening of the new facility.
He will join skateboarding legend Donny Fraser to oversee a series of rider and skater demonstrations on the program.
The new skate park has been four years in the making and is a key outcome of the Logan Village Forum in 2018.
Lighting, a key priority request by skaters, has been installed to allow the facility to be used into the evening.
The park also features a three metre 'vert wall', two bowls, stairs, rails and spines to engage skaters and riders of all levels of experience.
Shade structures will provide relief from the heat.
Planning Chair, Councillor Jon Raven, urged locals to use the new facility and chase their sporting dreams.
"We might even unearth the next Logan Martin here - another star to add to a long list of sporting talent to come from the City of Logan," Cr Raven said.
Division 4 Councillor Laurie Koranski thanked locals for helping shape the design of the park.
"We listened to the views of local skate enthusiasts and included features they most wanted, such as lights," Cr Koranski said.
Cr Koranski said the legacy of 'Smitty's Bowl and Memorial', dedicated to late skater Clinton Smith, had been retained.
"We believe the two bowls provided in the new skate park respectfully pay tribute to what was a much loved feature of the old skate park," Cr Koranski said.
"We have taken the opportunity to update the memorial signage and ensure the heritage of Smitty's efforts are acknowledged."
The $1.3 million project is co-funded by Council and the Division 4 Local Infrastructure Program.
Learn to Ride Workshops kick off the opening from 4pm.
