- Shovels hit ground on 13 new social homes in Gladstone West
- Part of Miles Government's Homes for Queenslanders plan to deliver one million more homes, including 53,500 social homes
The Miles Government continues to deliver more Homes for Queenslanders with construction underway on new homes in Gladstone West.
Thirteen homes in total are being built aimed single people, couples, young people, people with disability and seniors looking to downsize from their current larger social homes.
The site previously comprised two social homes, which have been demolished to be replaced by 13 homes – maximising the land to deliver more homes for people in need.
Six of the homes will be designed to Platinum and Gold level as per the Social Housing Design Guidelines, making them accessible for people with disability and older Queenslanders with mobility needs.
It comes after the government recently announced the purchase of 85 social homes in Gladstone through its Housing Investment Fund, as well as the purchase last year of 34 former serviced apartments in the city.
As stated by Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher:
"I've made it clear to the Premier and Minister doing what matters for Gladstone is delivering more homes and cost of living relief.
"Putting shovels in the ground on yet another project shows they're listening and delivering.
"Whether it's building more homes, providing more funding for our hardworking homelessness organisations and more support for renters, we're pulling all levers to help people in our community."
As stated by Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:
"We're getting more shovels in the ground and tradies on the tools to build the homes Queenslanders need, like here in Gladstone.
"Our Homes for Queenslanders plan is delivering - whether it's building or buying more social homes, working with community housing, helping first homeowners and renters or supporting people sleeping rough.
"We'll build one million more homes, including 53,500 social homes, while the LNP continue to block more Queenslanders from achieving home ownership."
