New sport lighting rolling out over the Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula Shire Council have been successful in receiving funding from the Victorian Government through the Growing Suburbs Fund to deliver upgraded and new critical lighting infrastructure at 10 sporting reserves across the Mornington Peninsula Shire over 2019/20 and 2020/21 financial years.
On Wednesday 17 April 2019, Mornington Peninsula Shire Councillor Bev Colomb met with The Hon Adem Somyurek Minister of Local Government and Small Business and Chris Brayne MP – Member for Nepean to celebrate this much-need initiative.
Council will receive $1,052,250 through the Growing Suburbs Fund towards the project. Council is contributing the remaining funds of $1,052,250.
The reserves receiving upgrades as part of this project include:
Stage One (September 2019 - February 2020)
Hastings Junior Oval
- Hastings Senior Oval
- Red Hill Junior Oval
- Olympic Park Soccer Pitch, Rosebud
- Olympic Park Senior Oval, Rosebud
Stage Two (September 2020 - February 2021)
Dromana Recreation Reserve, Dromana
- Civic Reserve Athletics Track, Mornington
- RM Hooper Reserve, Tuerong
- Barber Reserve, Somerville
- AR&F Ditterich Reserve, Main Ridge
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said the project is a great step forward for the sporting community across the Mornington Peninsula.
"We are constantly looking for ways to improve our sporting facilities and ensure they are meeting the needs of our community who will soon be able to enjoy playing on fields with state-of-the-art sports lighting.
"This project directly links to the Council's Sports Capacity Plan which aims to help guide strategic planning for the future provision of sports and sporting infrastructure throughout the Mornington Peninsula.
"The Sports Growth Lighting Package will allow Council to continue meeting the demands of these sports during both winter and summer months," concluded Cr Gill.
