New Sports Hall Of Fame Advisory Committee Announced

Greater Shepparton City Council appointed seven local residents to the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame Advisory Committee, at its November Council Meeting last Tuesday.

The Sports Hall of Fame Advisory Committee oversees the Sports Hall of Fame for the Greater Shepparton region, recommends inductees to Council and celebrates their achievements through an official induction ceremony.

The Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame aims to preserve, celebrate and showcase the history and heritage of sports excellence and achievement of Greater Shepparton residents.

The community representatives were appointed to the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame Advisory Committee for a period of four years commencing on 26 November 2024 and expiring on 30 August 2028.

The seven appointed community representatives are:

  • Don Kilgour
  • Peter Holland
  • Dennis Myers
  • Tyler Maher
  • Tanya Phillips
  • Margo Koskelainen
  • Valley Sport (Tom Van De Berg)

Council also acknowledged outgoing committee members Jacqui Hudgson, Darryl Butcher and Craig Potter, for their contributions during their term.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated the committee members during the November Council Meeting.

"These individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and passion for sport in our region, and their contributions will play a vital role in celebrating and preserving our community's rich sporting history," he said.

"We look forward to their insights and efforts in recognising the outstanding achievements of our local athletes and sportspeople."

Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame Advisory Committee Chair and Councillor Representative, Deputy Mayor, Cr Anthony Brophy, acknowledged the high calibre of previous committee members.

"It is fantastic to see a new committee member in Tanya Phillips, together with the ongoing contribution of Valley Sports. We have been fortunate to have some very successful and knowledgeable sporting personalities on the committee in the past," he said.

"Greater Shepparton is well known for having a strong sporting identity, be it locally, at a state, national or even at an international level, and this committee helps ensure these local achievements are recognised."
