Cardup will be the home of Western Australia's newest career fire station as part of a plan to future-proof demand for emergency services in Perth's rapidly growing south-east corridor.
The build of the $14.5 million project meets an important McGowan Government election commitment to ensure the availability of frontline firefighters.
Once complete, the new fire station will be fitted out with new appliances and equipment and 36 career firefighters will be based at the new station, which will support the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) to maintain rapid response times.
Local architects Iredale Pedersen Hook have been engaged to design the new station, which will focus on operational efficiency, workplace safety and firefighter wellbeing. The station will also feature an outdoor fitness space and quiet areas for downtime and recovery.
Construction is expected to begin towards the middle of next year, with an estimated completion date of 2024.
The population in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has increased more than 80 per cent over the past decade, with more than 32,000 people now residing in the area.
The location was determined by the Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner, following community consultation and based on operational needs.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
"This is an important election commitment for my Government as it builds on our significant investments in mitigation activities and strengthens our firefighting capabilities in growing communities.
"The new Cardup Fire Station will mean 36 of our career firefighters will have access to modern and cutting-edge facilities, equipment and technology, which will help them to respond to emergencies quicker and more efficiently."
As stated by Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson:
"This new career fire station will improve response times, enhance community safety and ensure we have the necessary infrastructure to maintain our exemplary standard of emergency response well into the future.
"Cardup Fire Station is an important development in the metropolitan area, and I look forward to seeing this new state-of-the art facility completed and the benefits it will deliver to local communities."
"The site has been carefully chosen by DFES with nearby access to main roads, homes, schools and businesses to keep those local communities safer for many years to come."
