An exciting new three-year sustainability program designed to inspire and empower the local community to adopt more environmentally-friendly practices will launch in Nillumbik this July.
The REthink Nillumbik sustainability program, funded by Council and run by local group Going Green Solutions, will feature a series of fun, interactive workshops and events exploring sustainable living across areas like energy, waste, housing and the circular economy.
Most events will be hosted at Edendale Community Environment Farm.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said Council is thrilled to partner with Going Green Solutions to rethink how we approach sustainability in Nillumbik.
"The REthink Nillumbik events will provide our residents with valuable insights and practical strategies for reducing their environmental impact through simple everyday choices," Cr Ramcharan said.
"By empowering our community with knowledge and hands-on activities, we can drive positive change and help achieve Council's goal of net zero emissions by 2035, a key focus of our Climate Action Plan."
Jules Jay from Going Green Solutions emphasised the program's focus on collaboration and taking an empowering, solutions-oriented approach.
"REthink Nillumbik is designed to get people thinking about their everyday choices in a positive way," Jules said.
"Our interactive sessions will explore sustainable practices through different lenses, but at the core is shifting towards a more circular economy model."
Upcoming REthink Nillumbik events include 'Liveable Homes' Thursday 18 July, 'Intro to the circular economy' on Saturday 3 August, and 'Energy Heroes' on Saturday 10 and 17 August.
The REthink Nillumbik program is supported by the Nillumbik Environment and Climate Action Hub (NECAH).
