The installation of two new toilet blocks will be the latest stage of the $1.3 million upgrade at Lake Canobolas. The upgrade of Orange's most popular recreation spot began in June 2023 and has been progressing in stages since then.Orange Deputy Mayor Gerald Power welcomed the start of work on the new facilities.
"It's been great to see the size of the crowds enjoying the lake lately," Cr Gerald Power said. "Hundreds of people have been making the most of the new paths, the upgraded beach areas and the new playground.
"The extra toilet facilities on both sides of the lake are going to complement the other upgrades."
LAKE: A network of new wheel-chair acessible paths has been installed around the shores of the lake.
Work to install the two new prefabricated facilities will begin later this week. The new units include male, female and accessible cubicles.
One will be installed alongside the new playground on the eastern side of the lake. One will be installed on the western side of the lake, near picnic areas, a fishing deck and the dragon boat launching platform.
The new units are similar to the toilets recently installed at Banjo Paterson Park on Ophir Road.
Work is also due to begin later this year to construct a new sewer pump station at the lake which will connect with recently built water and sewer pipelines. Until the new station is completed, the new toilet blocks will operate on a tank-based system which will be pumped out by waste contractors.
It is expected the toilets will be operational by June 2024.
