Last week, we planted four new drooping sheoaks (Allocasuarina verticilliata) along our foreshore in Black Rock.
Drooping sheoaks are considered important shade trees in coastal environments. When fully grown, the sound of the wind moving through the tree canopy makes a distinctive whispery sound.
These trees are replacing the two mature sheoaks that were deliberately felled in an act of environmental vandalism last month.
Tree vandalism in Bayside is illegal and severely impacts our community's environmental heritage and foreshore habitat.
Bayside City Council offers a reward of up to $40,000 for information leading to a successful prosecution for major damage to public trees. If you have any information about this incident, you can report it using the online tree vandalism form.
