New Waaia Courts Game Changer For Local Sport

New, modern hardcourts set to be constructed at Waaia this year will be a game-changer for local netball and tennis.

Moira Shire Council endorsed the appointment of a contractor to carry out the project at its January ordinary meeting, with works expected to begin later this year following the completion of the netball season.

Four ageing courts at the Waaia Recreation Reserve will be replaced with two multipurpose courts that meet Netball Victoria and Tennis Australia standards, as well as new lighting and fencing that meets guidelines.

Two shelters will also be constructed alongside the courts to improve all-weather access, as well as the installation of new lighting.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the project would have a very positive impact on increasing community participation for people of all ages.

"Sport plays a crucial role in building healthy, connected and vibrant communities, and we know how important sport is in Moira, particularly in our smaller towns," Dr Emonson said.

"New top-quality facilities will improve playing experience and modern sport infrastructure will help attract and retain more players in our local clubs, as well as improve safety and accessibility."

The court redevelopment has been supported through the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
