A new kindergarten funded by the Andrews Labor Government is on track to open at Wycheproof P-12 College, providing upgraded facilities for the area and ensuring families can ditch the double drop-off.
Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt today announced that a new purpose-built early learning centre using modular construction will open in Wycheproof in Term 1 2021.
A new kindergarten will be built on the school site at the corner of Mount and High streets, along with a 550 square metre all-abilities-accessible outdoor education space.
The building will include a 22-place kindergarten room, long day care room for 12 children and a maternal child health consultation room. The Wycheproof Kindergarten and Child Care Centre, operated by the YMCA, will move to the new centre.
The Labor Government has provided $700,000 towards the project with Buloke Shire Council contributing $500,000.
In an Australian-first, the Labor Government is investing nearly $5 billion over this decade to deliver two years of funded kindergarten for all Victorian children. This is part of the Labor Government's commitment to provide up to 15 hours of funded kindergarten each week for Victorian three-year-old children by 2029.
The Labor Government is also investing up to $169.6 million to make kinder free next year, saving families around $2000 for every child enrolled in a participating funded kindergarten program.
The Labor Government is investing $1.68 billion for early childhood infrastructure to support the sector as we roll out universal funded Three-Year-Old kinder.
As stated by Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt
"This new facility is a huge win for Wycheproof families, bringing together the early childhood needs of the community in one convenient location."
"The rapid construction of this kinder will mean Wycheproof children will be learning in a new and modern facility from the first day of Term 1 2020."
As stated by Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp
"We're thrilled to ensure families in Wycheproof will be able to send their children to a great local kindergarten next door to Wycheproof P-12 College, while ensuring parents aren't doing the dreaded double drop-off."
