New Year's Day Crackdown Nabs Drink Drivers Up North

As part of Operation Safe Arrival over the Christmas and New Year period, officers in the Northern District completed more than 1400 random breath tests on drivers on New Year's Day.

This was a combination of large scale static RBT sites and mobile patrol intercepts.

More than 400 of those RBTs were conducted in the Longford area following the Longford Cup.

Two drink drivers were detected at Longford.

Five drink drivers in total were detected during the Northern operations, with one driver found to be more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

The following readings were detected -

• 0.053

• 0.170

• 0.108

• 0.116

• 0.052

Operation Safe Arrival may have concluded, but police will continue to have high-visibility and covert patrols on highways and main roads across the state.
