Brisbane Police thank the majority of celebrators who attended the New Year's Eve (NYE) festivities in Brisbane city overnight as crowds were generally well-behaved.
Attendees welcoming in the start of 2025 flocked to the NYE events across Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley and South Bank Parklands.
Crowds also found fireworks vantage points at Howard Smith Wharves, Mt Coot-tha, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, and along the Brisbane River.
An estimated 60,000 people joined in the Southbank riverside festivities throughout the night*.
This estimate does not include the crowds who attended Safe Night Precincts, and other events throughout the city.
To ensure the celebrations were safe, there was a strong police presence throughout the city.
General duties police were joined by specialist units including the Mounted Unit, Highway Patrol, Rail Squad and Polair to reduce, deter and prevent crime.
Police were supported by partner agencies both on the ground during the event and in the activated State Police Operations Centre (SPOC) at Police Headquarters.
A total of 11 people were arrested on 16 charges in the South Bank, Brisbane CBD and Fortitude Valley areas.
The majority of charges were for anti-social behaviour and alcohol related incidents, such as public nuisance and liquor offences.
Acting Superintendent Emma Fletcher says officers were dedicated to making last night a safe environment for the community.
"There will always be a small number of people that will choose to do the wrong thing," she said.
"However, due to our large-scale police presence, we were able to respond to these incidents quickly and minimise disruption to the celebrations."
"We are pleased that the vast majority of people used their common sense and had a wonderful evening."
Highway Patrol conducted random breath tests, drug tests, speed detection and general road enforcement to deter, identify and prevent any dangerous driving behaviours.
Acting Superintendent Fletcher reminds Brisbane motorists that police will continue to be out in force on local roads for the remainder of New Year's Day, with drivers warned they may still be over the limit if driving today.
Brisbane Police wish everyone a happy new year.
