The Allan Labor Government has delivered a new state-of-the-art ambulance station in Yuroke, supporting our hardworking paramedics to do what they do best - save lives in their community.
Minister for Ambulance Services Mary-Anne Thomas today announced the opening of the new station with Member for Kalkallo Ros Spence attending the official opening alongside local paramedics.
The new ambulance station features a four-bay garage for ambulances, four rest-and-recline areas for paramedics to recuperate, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and improved security and car parking to make sure paramedics are safe.
The new Yuroke station is part of the Labor Government's ongoing support of Ambulance Victoria infrastructure, with $279 million invested since 2015 to deliver 50 ambulance stations, providing better working conditions for paramedics and ensuring lifesaving emergency care is available for all Victorians.
The Yuroke station is one of more than 40 stations completed across the state in the last nine years. In the Northern Metropolitan region, the Yuroke branch joins those already completed in Craigieburn, Broadmeadows and Preston.
Ten further sites across Victoria are also in the works, with stations at Maribyrnong and Bentleigh East under construction, while planning is underway for sites in Melton and Exford.
Alongside improved infrastructure, the Labor Government has invested in a range of initiatives to improve access to emergency ambulance services in regional Victoria, such as increasing the number of dual paramedic 24-hour ambulance stations and dedicated units that can respond to peak periods of demand.
The Victorian Budget 2023/24 provided more than $200 million to improve access to emergency care, with an additional $46 million investment going towards training mobile intensive care ambulance paramedics, getting 25 specialist paramedic practitioners on the road and supporting the new Centre for Excellence in Paramedicine.
To help paramedics meet demand and respond to the most time-critical patients, a further $108 million from this year's state budget is supporting services such as the Secondary Triage Service and the Medium Acuity Transport Service.
