At a Special Council Meeting held on Tuesday 8 October 2024, the newly-elected Leeton Shire Council was officially sworn in.

This followed the confirmation of councillors by the NSW Electoral Commission last week which saw Sandra Nardi, George Weston, Krystal Maytom, Michael Kidd and Tracey Morris re-elected and Stephen Tynan, Boston Edwards, Nicholas Wright and Sarah Tiffen elected for the first time. The new Council will serve a four-year term.

At the meeting, the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor also took place with Cr George Weston elected as Mayor and Cr Michael Kidd re-elected as Deputy Mayor for a two-year term.

Mayor Cr George Weston said he looks forward to working closely with his fellow councillors and Council staff.

"We are entering an exciting term for Leeton Shire Council with the Roxy nearing completion, the redeveloped Chelmsford Town Square open to the public and Vance Estate progressing steadily.

"This is our opportunity to work together for a brighter future for our residents and a sustainable future for the Council," he said.

Council's General Manager Jackie Kruger congratulated the new and returning councillors on their appointment.

"It's great to have some new faces around the Council table. There are busy times ahead and fresh ideas and perspectives will go a long way in ensuring the continued success of the Council," she said.

In the coming weeks, all Councillors will participate in induction and professional development training to prepare for their new roles.

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, and will be the first opportunity for staff to present reports to the newly-elected Council.

Leeton Shire Council would like to express its gratitude to all the candidates who nominated to become a Councillor. Council would also like to acknowledge departing Councillors, Tony Reneker, Paul Smith, Tony Ciccia, Matt Holt and for their immense efforts and hard work over the last Council term.
