- Public invited to register interest in next phase of consultation for $1.8 billion New Women and Babies Hospital Project
- Advisory groups being established to help shape future services at Murdoch and Osborne Park
- Women, families to have their say on key services
- Part of Cook Government's commitment to ongoing consultation across the life of the project
The Cook Government is calling on interested Western Australians to put their hand up to help shape services and facilities as part of the $1.8 billion New Women and Babies Hospital Project, as public consultation on the project enters the next phase.
Advisory groups are being established to help shape future services at the new hospital at Murdoch and at Osborne Park Hospital and Perth Children's Hospital, where services are also being expanded.
Project Community Advisory Groups (PCAGs) are enduring councils over the life of the project and are made up patients and carers.
Three PCAGs will be established:
- a general community group - to include expectant and new mothers, and support partners as well as past, current or potential future users of women's health services, including gynaecological and obstetric services;
- a specialist Aboriginal advisory group; and
- a specialist universal access and inclusion advisory group.
PCAGs will be consulted on a broad range of topics, including whole-of-facility aspects like the overall look and feel, outdoor spaces, wayfinding, and communal spaces.
Expressions of interest to join an advisory group and help shape future services and facilities for the New Women and Babies Hospital Project will launch next month.
Consumers are also being recruited for user groups which commence in September. Consumers in a user group will work alongside clinicians and staff on the functional requirements for each facility.
People can apply online at womenandbabies.wa.gov.au.
This next phase of public consultation will build on the valuable feedback provided by the community to date and is part of the Cook Government's commitment to ongoing consultation across the life of the project.
In February this year the Cook Government announced expressions of interest for managing contractors to design and construct facilities as part of the $1.8 billion New Women and Babies Hospital Project.
As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"This is a very large and complex project and there will be ongoing opportunities for community engagement over the coming years.
"We continue to consult with the community throughout every stage of this project to make sure we deliver a hospital that best meets the needs of the women and families who will be using its services.
"These advisory groups will play an important role and will ensure the diverse views and experiences of consumers across the State are heard.
"We want make sure the voices of women and families are at the heart of our planning and help shape the design and the services of the future."
