Next Stage Of Health Worker Recruitment Blitz Kicks Off

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Tasmanian Government has today launched the next phase of our health worker recruitment blitz, with full-page ads published in Victorian papers.

This fulfils another commitment under our next 100-day plan and specifically targets the healthcare workforce in Victoria, following news that the Victorian Labor Government are seeking to cut their healthcare workforce.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said these skilled workers would be welcomed to Tasmania with open arms.

"Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we have already recruited over 500 new healthcare workers – and we're just getting started," Minister Barnett said.

"Tasmania has more health care workers per head of population than any other State.

"We are undertaking the largest ever recruitment blitz of healthcare workers in Tasmania's history.

"My message to Victorian healthcare workers is: you might not be welcome under the Victorian Labor Government, but you're more than welcome here.

"Our full-page advertisements are in The Herald Sun and The Age, both reputable flagship papers, to well and truly get the word out.

"Tasmania wants you.

"The evidence is clear – we are investing in our frontline and employing more staff, and we're continuing to recruit, with a range of incentives on offer to bring healthcare workers here and keep them here.

"Applications are now open for a $15,000 incentive for nurses and midwives to move to Tasmania and remain employed full-time with the Tasmanian Health Service for three years or more, and we're also offering $100,000 to attract GPs to Tasmania to work in our rural and regional areas for five years.

"Through targeted incentives, strategic advertisement and contemporary facilities, we are ensuring that our healthcare system continues to drive this strong recruitment.

"Under our Government there is set to be even more nurses, doctors, paramedics and more – and as we implement our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, I look forward to bringing more positive updates."
