The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and the Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) has released the draft Crane Industry Code of Practice, to allow industry participants and members of the public to review and comment on the Code before it is assessed for registration.
The draft Crane Code has been developed to assist the crane industry and associated businesses in complying with the Primary Duty.
NHVR Chief Safety and Productivity Officer David Hourigan said mobile cranes play an essential role for infrastructure and construction projects across Australia.
"As with all heavy vehicles on our roads, mobile cranes must adhere to the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), that applies to all vehicles over 4.5 tonnes in most states and territories," Mr Hourigan said.
"Many of the risks associated with the use of mobile cranes arise because of their mass and dimensions, the forward projection of their boom, and their use in urban areas and high traffic environments."
"The way a crane is built can impact how it moves on the road." Mr Hourigan said.
The Code is available for feedback for the next 30 days. Please submit your comments using the feedback form available on the NHVR website
