Local and Australian artists are invited to enter the prestigious Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Art, with a total prize pool of $31,000.
Nillumbik Shire Council's biennial, acquisitive prize is open to emerging and established artists from the Shire and across the country with artists free to express their creativity in any medium. This year, there is no set theme.
The prize aims to be as accessible as possible, reflecting Council's commitment to nurturing the local arts community, while also welcoming talent from across Australia.
Prize Details:
- Open Prize: $20,000 (acquisitive)
- Local Prize: $10,000 (acquisitive)
- Mayor's Award: $500
- People's Choice Award: $500 Announced at the close of the exhibition
The competition will culminate in a finalist exhibition in April 2025, where the shortlisted works will be displayed. This exhibition is free to the public, offering the audience the chance to view and vote for their favourite piece in the People's Choice Award.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said that Council is committed to supporting the Nillumbik artistic community and, by keeping fees low, providing an opportunity for all local artists to enter and exhibit in a major art prize alongside national artists.
"This prize continues Nillumbik's longstanding artistic tradition and Council is looking forward to seeing the breadth of contemporary art entered and the responses from our artistic community," Cr Ramcharan said.
The artworks submitted will first be shortlisted by a distinguished panel of judges. A separate panel will then select the winners.
