Nimmitabel Pioneers Hall is set for renovations funded by the Australian Government's Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program. Commencing this week, the project will improve accessibility at the hall and address long-standing drainage issues, while maintaining and preserving the building's historic character.
This work may require the removal of a gum tree located at the front of the hall. This tree has caused significant damage to the building in the past, and its removal will both prevent further structural harm and allow for the extension of the footpath around the new accessibility ramp. This path extension will ensure that accessibility improvements do not impede walkability in the village centre.
If following a detailed assessment this tree does need to be removed, Council has been in discussion with the Nimmitabel Lions Club to provide replacement trees for planting around Lake Wallace.
Other planned work includes rectification of drainage issues at the rear of the hall to prevent further water damage to the building.
The hall will remain open during these renovations, with access through the front entrance maintained to minimise any disruption to the community. Current estimates would see this work completed by the end of July 2024.
