Parkes Shire Council is pleased to announce the successful completion of nine new projects under the second phase of the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. This initiative supports Australian councils in delivering priority local road and community infrastructure projects, creating jobs, and providing long-lasting benefits for communities.
Projects delivered under Phase 2 of this program in the Parkes Shire include:
- New Multipurpose Courts at Peak Hill: These courts will enable the community to engage in various sports such as tennis, basketball, and netball, encouraging a versatile and active sporting environment.
- Improved Parking and Pedestrian Access at Harrison Park Complex: This project promotes safety, with suitable parking facilities and pedestrian access on both sides of the complex.
- New Cricket Nets at Berryman Oval, Trundle: Modern, accessible nets have been installed to support cricket practice for all community members, complementing ongoing developments at the precinct.
- Salinity Mitigation Works at Cheney Oval: New drainage systems have been installed to reduce the impact of salinity on the turf surface and provide new drainage across half the oval.
- New Pathways at McGlynn Complex: Greater accessibility for netball and hockey players and supporters through the addition of new pathways.
- Shared Pathways along East Street: These pathways promote active lifestyles by providing safe, accessible routes for walking and cycling.
- Solar Lighting at Memorial Hill Precinct: Solar lighting has been installed to improve safety and accessibility in the area.
- Furniture for Cooke Park Pavilion: The facility has been furnished, providing a comfortable space for community gatherings and events.
- Goal Posts at Pioneer Oval: Installation of appropriate goal posts to support local sports activities.
Mayor of Parkes Shire, Neil Westcott, expressed his enthusiasm for the program.
"This funding opportunity for local councils across Australia has been wonderful as it has funded many community projects that were not eligible under other funding programs," Mayor Westcott said.
"It has allowed Council to deliver projects across the Shire that support active lifestyles and ways to enjoy our great outdoors, as well as offering improved safety at some key locations," he added.
