Protecting communities is a priority for the Rockliff Liberal Government and today nine new North-West firefighters graduated and will join the Tasmania Fire Service based in Burnie and Devonport.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said it was great to attend the graduation ceremony in Ulverstone and welcome the seven men and two women to the TFS.
"These new recruits are local North-Wester Coasters and are dedicated to living and working in this beautiful region.
"They have completed 15 weeks of intensive training and will now move into local brigades to continue their basic training for the next four years before they become fully qualified," Minister Ellis said.
"They have received world's best practice training in firefighting and rescue techniques that will allow them to protect the Tasmanian community in structure fires, bushfires, road car crashes, hazmat incidents and first aid.
"The recruits completed their training at the TFS Cambridge Training Facility, with some weeks conducted in the North and North-West for the first time.
"With an expected hotter and drier summer ahead, I'm sure these new recruits will be an extremely welcome boost to the TFS on the North-West Coast.
The recruits also complement the additional day crew trial that the Rockliff Liberal Government commenced in May 2023, and which is currently under evaluation."
Minister Ellis wished the recruits good luck with their future careers and encouraged anyone who is interested in an incredible career to join the Tasmanian Fire Service.
The next state-wide recruit course begins in April 2024.
