Pack up your garden hoses if you live in Tamworth, Moonbi or Kootingal - for the first time since 2016 the Tamworth Water Supply area will move to Level 4 Water Restrictions on Monday (6 May 2019).
Made necessary by the ongoing drought, Level 4 Water Restrictions means all outdoor residential use of town water is banned.
The use of town water on outdoor industrial and commercial green spaces is also banned.
The tighter restrictions also mean cleaning of vehicle windows, windscreens and mirrors can be done only with the use of buckets only and pools cannot be filled or topped up.
Recycled, greywater and rainwater from tanks which are not connected to the town water supply can be used.
Under the Tamworth Regional Council Drought Management Plan, Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal move to Level 4 restrictions when the level of water in Chaffey Dam drops to 25%. As of today (May 2, 2019) the dam level is 25.5 per cent. On current usage levels, WaterNSW estimates the dam will reach 25% mid-next week and Council has taken the decision to bring Level 4 Waste Restrictions into effect as of Monday.
Tamworth Regional Council Director Water and Waste, Bruce Logan, said Council is investigating a range of additional drought response and water sustainability actions.
"We are working on measures which will secure our water supply - we are hoping for the best (in terms of rain) but planning for the worst," he said.
