No Stronger Supporter Of Tasmania's Renewable Future

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government strongly supports our renewable energy future and backs in energy developers who are progressing projects in the State.

Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said energy is more than just a sector, it underpins our economic activity and standard of living, it provides jobs, and it supports the growth of our industries.

"We have always said what needs to be built, will be built," he said.

"We remain resolute in our plan to grow our renewable energy generation and while Labor talk about having an energy plan – we are getting on with delivering one.

"The Tasmanian Government remains committed to Marinus Link and the North West Transmission Development, which are key to underpinning our energy future and the certainty for our energy developers to invest.

"Marinus continues to proceed through its project development processes with the Shareholder Agreement with the Australian and Victoria Governments finalised in March 2024, ensuring costs of a nationally significant project are shared and that Tasmania is not taking on unnecessary risks.

"The final piece of the puzzle - a Final Investment Decision - is due in coming months and will ensure the project proceeds once the arrangements stack up for Tasmanians.

"We are also backing in our renewable energy sector through our Renewable Energy Approvals Pathway, and making it even easier for renewable projects to enter the Major Projects Approval pathway with automatic entry to this planning path.

"Projects such as Robbins Island Wind Farm have been given all the regulatory tick-offs by Tasmania and we all wait with bated breath for the Commonwealth to get on and do its part.

"Our plan has the backing of both sides of politics in Canberra and we will continue working with the Federal Government over the years ahead through our joint investments in Project Marinus and Battery of the Nation and through the joint Renewable Energy Transformation Agreement.

"The Tasmanian Liberal Government is backing in our energy sector and will continue to do so, supporting them to get things built in Tasmania and supporting our economic future."
