AMA members are invited to nominate for election to the AMA's peak policy setting body - Federal Council.
Nominations for election to the AMA Federal Council are now open.
The Federal Council is the AMA's peak policy setting body and it is a great opportunity for members to help shape and influence AMA policy.

AMA Federal Councillors serve for two-year terms, and may serve a maximum of three terms (or six years in total).
AMA members may nominate for election in the following categories:
- Practice Groups of General Practice, Private Specialist Practice, Public Hospital Doctors, Doctors in Training, and Rural Doctors.
- Speciality Groups of Anaesthetists, Dermatologists, Emergency Physicians, Obstetrician-Gynaecologists, Ophthalmologists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Paediatricians, Pathologists, Physicians, Psychiatrists, Radiologists, and Surgeons.
- Ordinary Members of any doctor in any speciality, craft group or career stage

The Federal AMA has a target of 40 per cent women, 40 per cent men, and 20 per cent flexible for all AMA councils, committees and boards. A target of women holding 50 per cent of AMA elected positions has been set. Nominations reflecting the diversity of the membership and that assist in achieving AMA gender balance targets are encouraged.
