Nominations Now Open For NQ Sportstar Awards

If you know a Townsville sports champion now is the time to nominate them for the 2024 North Queensland Sportstar Awards.

The awards are the longest-running and most widely recognised sports awards in regional Queensland, recognising excellence in athletic achievement and volunteering. Five Townsville finalists from each award category will go through to the finals, hosted by Mount Isa City Council.

Nominations for the awards are open until Thursday 12 September and include eight awards categories: Sportstar of the Year, Junior Sportstar of the Year, Rural and Remote Sportstar of the Year, Sportstar Athlete with a Disability, Masters of Sport of the Year, Service to North Queensland Sport, Sport Team of the Year and Sporting Excellence.

Councillor and Olympian Suzy Batkovic said there were many deserving Townsville athletes, volunteers and organisers who should be nominated for an award.

"Regional sport is so important in keeping our community healthy, active and connected, but it doesn't happen without hard work. Athletes, organisers and volunteers all come together to make local sport the cornerstone of our community," Cr Batkovic said.

"I would strongly encourage anyone who knows an eligible nominee to get your nominations in now. Nominations are only open until Thursday 12 September, so jump onto the NQ Sports website now to nominate your local sports star.

"We also have our 2025 Australia Day Awards open now, which includes a Junior and Senior Sports Award. Support our local sports stars by also nominating them for an Australia Day Award to celebrate Townsville's sporting excellence."
