18 August 2021: Nominations are open for the 2021 State and Territory Woolworths Junior Landcare Team Award which acknowledges Junior Landcare teams who implement landcare practices within the local community or school.
Nominations are open to groups of young people aged 18 or under. Eligible groups include primary schools, secondary schools, Scouts, Girl Guides, youth organisations or young community landcare teams that have contributed to raising awareness, sharing knowledge and promoting participation of landcare amongst young people.
The Junior Landcare program empowers children to take meaningful action to care for the environment in their local community. Junior Landcare provides children with an opportunity to become aware of environmental issues particularly around the themes of biodiversity, food production, waste management, and Indigenous perspectives.

State and Territory winners of the Woolworths Junior Landcare Team Award will automatically become finalists in the 2022 National Landcare Awards to be held later next year.
Newham Primary School in Victoria's Macedon Ranges, was the 2021 National Woolworths Junior Landcare Team Award winner for their work on indigenous vegetation along a tributary of Deep Creek that abuts the school, creating a nature corridor for local wildlife that connects with the Cobaw Biolink. They also designed and built a wetland to provide an alternative breeding ground for frogs which 10 southern brown tree frogs now call home.
Landcare Australia CEO, Dr Shane Norrish says, "The Woolworths Junior Landcare Team Award encourages the Junior Landcarers of today, to be the landcare leaders of tomorrow in communities around Australia."
