General Manager of Bland Shire Council, Grant Baker, is excited to invite the community to help make the 2025 Australia Day Awards a celebration of extraordinary community spirit.
"It's time to celebrate!" Mr. Baker stated, emphasising the importance of recognising the commitment and achievements of local residents. "The Australia Day Awards offer a unique opportunity for us to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of individuals and groups within our community. These awards allow us to honor those who make a significant difference in our lives and the fabric of Bland Shire."
Nominations for the 2025 Australia Day Awards are now open and will close at 5pm on 22 November 2024, nominations can be submitted via the Council's website at www.blandshire.nsw.gov.au, at Council offices located at 6 Shire Street, or by calling Council at 02 6972 2266. Mr. Baker is hoping for a record number of nominations to showcase the remarkable people who contribute to the Bland Shire's success.
"Recent years have presented our community with numerous challenges," Mr Baker reflected. "These experiences have highlighted the resilience and spirit of our community, along with the vital roles that local groups and volunteers play in our lives. It's only fitting that we recognise these individuals and organisations with Australia Day award nominations, allowing us to come together on January 26, 2025, to express our gratitude."
The Australia Day Awards have previously seen outstanding nominees, making it difficult for the judging panel to select award recipients. Mr Baker urges nominators to provide detailed information to ensure candidates are properly represented. "The judging panel relies solely on the information provided in nominations," he explained. "A lack of detail can result in deserving candidates missing out on warranted recognition."
He also encourages those who may have narrowly missed out on awards in previous years to consider re-nominating them. "Every year, our judges face tough decisions, and unfortunately, we often don't see strong candidates nominated again. This is the perfect opportunity to recognise anyone who has positively contributed to the Bland Shire and celebrate their achievements."
