Mayor Neil Reilly has launched Kiama Council's Local Government Awards 2024, that recognise those people that play a part in our community.

Cr Reilly said the Local Government Awards were an annual opportunity to shine a light on people in our municipality who make a difference no matter how large or small.

"We're using Local Government Week (29 July – 4 August) to celebrate our community, the Municipality of Kiama, the place we live, work and play," Cr Reilly said.

"The fact is we've been a Municipality, in one shape or another, since 1859. That alone is worth celebrating."

"What we're doing this year is using Local Government Week to highlight the many and varied ways people contribute to our 'social fabric'."

Cr Reilly said the Local Government Awards were being presented during Local Government Week, which also coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the Municipality.

"What we've done previously is presented a range of community awards, for all sorts of reasons, at different times of the year."

"Now we've pulled all of them together, at an appropriate time of year, to really provide an opportunity to celebrate our community, and the people who make it what it is – the best place of earth."

The Local Government Awards 2024 are presented in the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year Award
  • Young Citizen of the Year Award
  • Senior Citizen of the Year Award
  • Community Group of the Year Award
  • Sports Honour Roll
  • Arts Honour Roll
  • Sports Achievement Awards – sports person, young sports person and sports volunteer
