Noojee Community Rings in Christmas, Plans Exciting Year Ahead

The community of Noojee took some time out on Sunday to reflect on a huge year of milestones for the small township, and plan for an exciting year ahead for the Shaping the Future of Noojee project.

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Annemarie McCabe attended the Christmas event to mingle with residents and hear about the project's progress so far.

Sunday's event also saw the Project Manager and Working Group members provide an update on the Shaping the Future of Noojee project, which has five key working groups that will feed into the strategic direction of Noojee.

These working groups are:

  • The Eco Tourism Working Group
  • The Specialised Agricultural Industry Development Working Group
  • The Multipurpose Community Hub and Education Centre Working Group
  • The Ethical Hunting and Game Processing Working Group, and
  • The Power and Connectivity Reliability Working Group

Each of the groups have met three times already and are comprised of local residents, traders, industry specialists, education and research organisations and government representatives, from both state and local level.

Local resident and trader Di Johnston said she was excited to be a part of this project.

"The Shaping the Future of Noojee project holds paramount significance for the town, as it not only promises to enhance local infrastructure and amenities but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth, community development, and an improved quality of life for residents," Ms Johnston said.

"I am thrilled to be involved in this project because it provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the town's prosperity, fostering a vibrant and sustainable community for generations to come."

Noojee was one of 11 towns and communities that received a grant under the Forestry Transition Program to support the community and to develop the local economy. The $500,000 grant provides an opportunity for the Noojee community to identify local strengths and explore opportunities for innovation to ensure a thriving community and successful future.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe said she was eager to see the outcomes of this project.

"Noojee is a premier destination in Baw Baw and has so much to offer for residents and tourists alike.

"The Shaping the Future of Noojee project will maximise the potential of this beautiful area and ensure it's thriving for years to come."

The Shaping the Future of Noojee project is being led by Baw Baw Shire Council in partnership with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, and the community.
