A major flood peak similar to February 2009 flood levels is expected at Ingham Friday afternoon.
Rainfall totals of 300-600 mm have been recorded over the Herbert River catchment in the past 3 days. Rainfall is generally easing across the catchment area and shifting northwards.
Herbert River to Nash’s Crossing:
Major flood levels are generally steady between Gleneagle and Nash’s Crossing.
No river level observations are available from the Gleneagle Homestead at this time. Based on observations from the Gleneagle automatic station, the river level peaked early on Friday morning. Major flood levels are continuing. The Herbert River at Gleneagle is expected to remain above the major flood level (9.00 m) during Friday and into Saturday.
Herbert River downstream of Nash’s Crossing:
Major flood levels continue along the Herbert River. The flood peak is currently approaching Trebonne. Major flood levels are rising downstream to Halifax.
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge peaked at 16.8 metres during Friday morning and is currently steady. River levels are expected to remain around 16.80 metres Friday afternoon. The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is expected to remain above the major flood level (14.00 m) during Friday.
The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station is currently at 14.42 metres and steady. River levels are likely to peak near 14.75 metres early Friday afternoon and remain above the major flood level (12.00 m) during Friday and possibly into Saturday.
The Herbert River at Gairloch is currently at 12.74 metres and rising. River levels are expected to remain around current levels early Friday afternoon. The river level is likely to remain above the major flood level (11.50 m) Friday night.
The Herbert River at Halifax is currently at 5.52 metres and steady. River levels are expected to remain around current levels Friday afternoon. The Herbert River at Halifax is expected to remain above the major flood level for the remainder of Friday and into Saturday.
