Newcastle-based award-winning company North Construction and Building Pty Ltd (North) have been announced as the winning tender for the construction of Stage 2 of the Upper Hunter Innovation Precinct in Muswellbrook town centre.
A successful application from Muswellbrook Shire Council to Infrastructure NSW's Restart NSW Fund has resulted in $1.4M towards this project and construction is now underway.
Council's general manager Fiona Plesman said Stage 2 of the precinct is the much-anticipated construction of a dedicated high-tech laboratory and office space which will give local students greater access higher education and the knowledge and creative economy.
"As outlined in Council's Community Strategic Plan 2017-2027, Council is committed to investing in educational infrastructure and this facility, situated in the heart of the innovation precinct adjacent to TAFE and University of Newcastle campuses and the Muswellbrook Library, will deliver accessible STEM and technical education to students, local innovators, community organisations and businesses.
"North, winners of several building awards, have constructed many successful projects in the Hunter region and we welcome the company as the successful tenderer for this exciting project and look forward to the completion of Stage 2," she said.
The Restart NSW Fund was established by the NSW Government in 2011 to enable the funding and delivery of targeted high priority infrastructure projects with the objective of improving economic growth and productivity, particularly in regional NSW.
