Colac Highway Patrol intercepted a man speeding in Birregurra last night then made an unexpected discovery inside his car.
Officers detected the man travelling west along the Princes Highway at an alleged speed of 114kph in a 100 kph zone about 7pm.
The driver, a man in his 60s, underwent a roadside drug test which allegedly returned a positive result for cannabis.
Upon inspecting the man's Toyota Yaris, officers discovered a family of mice residing in the rear right tail light.
The Beech-Forest man was issued with a $330 penalty notice for speeding and a defect notice for the unsafe Toyota Yaris vehicle.
Officers are awaiting the results of the drug test.
