The new FFA Cup Round of 32 format has changed things up in 2021, and one of the results of that was a record number of Member Federation v A-League matches being drawn!
Out of the 16 matches in the Round of 32, eight of those will see a National Premier Leagues club host an A-League club.
The change comes after a move to a Zone format for the 2021 Round of 32, removing fixed A-League v A-League or Member Federation v Member Federation ties.
This has created more unpredictability within the draw, and from the Round of 16, the draw will be completely open nation-wide.
It opens up the opportunity for potentially less A-League clubs in the Final Rounds, giving Member Federation sides a huge opportunity to reach the Final, and even win the competition for the first time.
And at the end of it all is a coveted spot in the AFC Champions League for the Winners*, opening up the community clubs in Australia to the global aspect of our sport.
