A re-elected NSW Liberal-National Government will commit $250,000 to support the Maronite Eparchy of Australia celebrate 50 years since its foundation in Australia.
Announcing the funding commitment during the Maronite Catholic Society's Annual Gala Dinner, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said the Golden Jubilee was an important and significant milestone.
"This is event is more than recognising 50 years since the Eparchy's official establishment in Australia in 1973, but a celebration of the Maronite cultural and spiritual identity," Mr Perrottet said.
"The NSW Liberals and Nationals value our diverse multicultural and multi-faith society and that is why we are committing $250,000 to support the Maronite community celebrate this major milestone."
Minister for Multiculturalism Mark Coure said the Golden Jubilee will involve a number of events throughout the year to bring all members of the diverse Maronite community together.
"The Maronite community is a strong reflection of our multicultural and multi-faith society in NSW," Mr Coure said.
"Each of the events planned throughout the year will bring tens of thousands of people from all walks of life together to immerse themselves in the rich heritage and culture of the Maronite community."
On behalf of the Maronite Eparchy of Australia, His Excellency Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay welcomed the commitment to support the Golden Jubilee.
"Following the uncertainty of the past few years, the Golden Jubilee is an opportunity to re-establish community connectedness which is an essential part of our culture," Bishop Tarabay said.
"It is also an occasion for a revival of the Aramaic and Syriac Antiochian culture that distinguishes the Maronite Australian Lebanese identity."
