NSW Health Addresses Cadia Gold Mine Dust Concerns

NSW Health is working with the Environment Protection Authority to respond to community concerns about dust emissions.

NSW Health is working with the Environment Protection Authority to respond to community concerns about dust emissions from Newcrest's Cadia Holdings Pty Ltd mine in Central West NSW.

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is investigating concerns related to emissions and NSH Health is providing support in responding to concerns about potential health risks.

Actions the EPA is taking to investigate concerns and ensure regulatory controls are in place are available on their website.

NSW Health is working in close collaboration with EPA to assess and analyse any potential health risks associated with dust emissions at Cadia mine. This includes:

  • Regular meetings with EPA to ensure data collection is well-integrated to assess environmental and health concerns.
  • Convening an expert panel to review available data and monitor and assess any health risk.
  • Support for local GPs in responding to their patients' concerns about their health in relation to potential exposures.
    • A Webinar with toxicological, water quality, and public health experts took place on 14 June 2023.
