NSW Invites Feedback on Maitland Mental Health Project

Have your say on the Maitland Mental Health Rehabilitation Project, with the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) on public exhibition from today.

The new Maitland Mental Health Rehabilitation Facility will be co-located on the Maitland Hospital campus and enhance specialist mental health services in the region to improve support for individuals requiring ongoing mental health care.

The facility designs have been informed by extensive consultation with staff, consumers, carers and the community, including engagement sessions held last year.

The new health facility will provide modern inpatient rehabilitation spaces, dedicated therapy areas, enhanced outdoor and recreational facilities, and a design focused on recovery-oriented care to support patients in their transition back to independent living.

The new facility will be built to support contemporary models of mental health care, to improve access and better integrate with broader health services in the region.

Construction is expected to commence in late 2025, following planning approval and the appointment of a builder.

The REF planning documentation and supporting technical documents are available on the Health Infrastructure website at On Exhibition.

Feedback can be submitted via the website until 11:59pm on Wednesday, 9 April 2025.

The new Maitland Mental Health Rehabilitation facility is being delivered as part of the NSW Government's $700 million Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program, to support mental health care reform and enhanced mental health facilities across the state.
