Detectives investigating the 2010 murder of a man on the state’s Far North Coast have arrested a man on unrelated outstanding Queensland warrants, NSW Police say.
The body of Douglas Benge, aged 46, was discovered by his neighbours in a residential shed on a rural property at Kunghur, near Murwillumbah, on Monday 15 November 2010.
He had suffered multiple injuries to his body.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Tweed/Byron Local Area Command formed Strike Force Buffet to investigate Mr Benge’s death.
As part of ongoing inquiries, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a nearby property at Kunghur about 9.30am yesterday today.
Police spoke with the 49-year-old male resident and inquiries revealed he was wanted by Queensland Police Service for unrelated matters, including an alleged armed robbery and depravation of liberty.
He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with the warrants.
It is anticipated Queensland detectives will apply for the man’s extradition when he appears at Tweed Heads Local Court today tomorrow.
Meanwhile, inquiries into the murder of Mr Benge continue, and during a search of the property, police located a number of items, which have been seized for further examination.
Detectives are reappealing to the community for information that may assist with their inquiries.
In particular, they would like to speak with anyone who had dealings with Mr Benge in the months prior to his death.
