The Central Coast community will benefit from a $500,000 funding boost from the NSW Government to complete two minor works projects at Wyong Hospital to improve patient and staff experiences.
The Minns Labor Government is investing a total of almost $12 million in 61 projects as part of the Regional Health Minor Works Program.
Projects include creating a sensory garden outside of Wyong Hospital's acute geriatric ward, 2C, which provides care for patients with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
The fenced garden will be suitable to be accessed by aged patients with reduced mobility. The work will include the installation of raised garden beds, accessible garden paths, plants, seating, lighting, a nurse call system for patient safety.
The garden will also contain a number of simulated elements for high-need dementia patients including a bus stop, taxi signage, a mailbox for posting letters and clothesline. These design elements will be used to create routine and a familiar and comforting environment for patients to help manage anxiety and provide a sense of purpose and calm.
Louisiana House at Wyong Hospital, which is used as key worker accommodation for medical staff, will also undergo renovations. This includes replacing the roof, upgrading the bathroom and laundry facilities and completing external landscaping works.
