NSW New Car Park For Hospital Staff At Bulli

A more convenient parking solution for Bulli Hospital staff is on its way with a new car park to be built only 200 metres from the hospital and set to be operational by October.

Work will start next week to transform a section of land at the intersection of Memorial Drive and the Princes Highway at Bulli into a temporary car park free of charge for Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District staff.

The land owned by Transport for NSW is a short walk from work for staff at Bulli Hospital and close to a signalised pedestrian crossing.

Approximately 17 car spaces, lighting and signage will be installed to ensure the area is well lit and accessible for staff.

Work to build the car park will take about six weeks and includes removing vegetation, constructing new pavement, widening the existing driveway and installing a boom gate, lights, signs, line-marking and fencing.

Work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, from Monday 19 August until Friday 27 September, weather permitting.

During work, single lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place on the Princes Highway between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

The bus stop on the Princes Highway opposite Hospital Road will be temporarily relocated approximately 50 metres south during work.

Motorists are advised to allow five minutes' additional travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Quotes attributable to Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast Ryan Park:

"The NSW Government is committed to ensuring our health staff working at Bulli Hospital have access to convenient and secure parking options.

"This parking solution is additional to the options already in place including the expanded free on-demand shuttle, extra spaces at the Bulli Ambulance station, and timed parking on Hospital Road.

"Transport for NSW and NSW Health have worked together to provide a solution that cuts down on the commute time and prioritises the health and wellbeing of our frontline staff by providing easy access to their place of work.

"We are working on long term solutions and will continue to listen to the community and monitor the conditions in the vicinity of the hospital."

Quotes attributable to Member for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart:

"We are pleased to announce construction of a temporary car park for Bulli Hospital staff is being expedited with work starting next week and the car park expected to be operational by October.

"I'd encourage the community to continue to utilise available parking at Bulli Showground and commuting to the hospital on the free shuttle service.

"I'd like to thank our health staff for their ongoing patience and flexibility while we work through a permanent solution to provide enough parking spaces on-site.

"It is so unfortunate, that the former Liberal/National government did not have the foresight and commitment to the people of the Illawarra to provide the hospital staff with a carpark. Just another example of the Minns Labor government having to address the former government's failures."
