Senior Traffic Police have pleaded with motorists to drive with more caution after six people died on NSW roads today, NSW Police say.
About 4.40am today, police were called to the New England Highway about five kilometres south of Aberdeen after a man who was struck by a car, suffered multiple injuries and died shortly after.
At 1.20pm today on the New England Highway at Bendemeer a woman and her male passenger were both killed when their vehicle struck a stationary truck.
Just before 4pm today a 3-year-old boy, who was a pedestrian, was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Abuklea Road at Eastwood.
Shortly after 6.30pm today, emergency services were called to the southbound lanes of the Hume Highway near Golden Vale Road after two people in a sedan, were killed after a collision with a semi-trailer.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, Commander of the Traffic & Highway Patrol said six deaths on the state’s road was alarming.
"Police and other government agencies continue to ask motorists in NSW to drive with caution and stay alert to what is going on around them.
"It appears that our messaging is not getting through and I am staggered that six people have needlessly lost their lives on the state’s roads in one day.
"We know that speed, fatigue, drink and drug driving, seatbelts and distractive devices can all have a detrimental effect on drivers and riders.
"I urge all motorists and road users to exercise the utmost caution when they are on or near our roads," Assistant Commissioner Corboy pleaded.
