NSW police probe suspicious fire

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a house in Sydney’s south-west.

About 7.30pm today, a 90-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife were in their home on Cancery Street, Canley Vale, when they were awoken by their smoke alarm.

Emergency services attended and fire fighters extinguished a fire at the front door of the home.

The man and his wife were treated by Ambulance Paramedics for shock and smoke inhalation. They did not require hospitalisation.

Officers from Cabramatta Local Area Command established a crime scene at the address which has been examined by forensic specialists.

The fire is being treated as suspicious. Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area are urged to contact Crime Stopers, NSW Police say.
