Police are releasing images in an appeal for public assistance as they continue to investigate the suspicious death of a man in Granville earlier this year, under Strike Force Loureiro.
About 12.55pm on Sunday 17 March 2024, emergency services were called to a home on Louis Street, Granville, following reports of an altercation.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended the scene and found a 36-year-old man with significant head injuries.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Police were advised he later died in hospital on Monday 18 March 2024.
He was formally identified as 36-year-old Fiji national, Maciu Tale Tuitubou.
A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene at the time and was taken to Granville Police Station; however, no charges have been laid.
Detectives from Cumberland Police Area Command established Strike Force Loureiro in March to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and Maciu's subsequent death.
Cumberland PAC Acting Commander, Acting Superintendent Darren Beeche said detectives have conducted extensive inquiries, but are now appealing for more information from members of the public.
Police would like to speak to any witnesses, including anyone who saw Maciu before the alleged assault.
In particular, police would like to speak to a woman who was seen holding an open umbrella at the scene but left before the arrival of emergency services.
"We are reaching out for assistance from the community as we continue to investigate this for Maciu's family, who have been left devastated," A/Supt Beeche said.
"We especially need this woman to come forward as we believe she might have information that could assist police with their inquiries.
"My detectives are working hard to find the answers for Maciu's family," A/Supt Beeche said.
