The NSW Police Force has today announced a new insurance and support scheme for officers, known as the 'Enhanced Police Support Scheme' (EPSS).
The EPSS will replace the current 'Police Blue Ribbon Insurance' (PBRI) and will provide improved coverage for police officers injured on or off duty.
The coverage will include supplementary support payments for eligible officers injured on duty for up to 10 years.
The new arrangements will provide improved off-duty support benefits with income protection payments from two years up to three years.
All on and off duty death benefits remain the same.
It will also address the superannuation concessional cap issue, which existed under the previous scheme, and will streamline the process for claims by removing the need to deal with multiple providers.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb APM said the NSWPF has been working hard with the Police Association of New South Wales to better deliver a scheme that ensures police officers and their families are looked after.
"This new scheme is ultimately a better deal for our officers, and will be easier to use, taking the pressure off them when they need it most."
President of the Police Association of NSW, Kevin Morton, said the Association has fought tirelessly to secure these enhancements and protections for our police officers.
"We thank the NSW Government and NSW Police Force for their support in achieving these outcomes," Mr Morton said.
The EPSS is expected to start on Tuesday 1 October 2024.
